Chimney sweep and wood-burning stove: what is inspected when?
Acceptance, sweeping, fireplace inspection: anyone who operates a stove receives regular visits. An overview of what happens and how to prepare.

With their first stove, many customers find that the chimney sweep visits more often than expected. There is a reason for this: he makes sure the system is safe and burns cleanly. Here is an overview of when he comes and what he does. ## Before the first fire: acceptance A newly installed stove may only be put into operation once the responsible district chimney sweep has inspected the system. Among other things, he checks the connection to the chimney, the distances to combustible components, the floor protection and the combustion air supply. As a rule, we coordinate the installation with him at the planning stage. That way there are no surprises at acceptance. ## Sweeping and inspection How often the chimney is swept is stated in the fireplace notice (Feuerstättenbescheid), which you receive from your district chimney sweep. If you heat regularly with wood, the chimney is usually swept several times a year, less often with occasional use. You may also have the sweeping done by another chimney sweep company. The certificate must then be sent to the district chimney sweep on time. ## The fireplace inspection Twice within seven years, the district chimney sweep inspects all fireplaces in the house. He checks whether everything is still safe to operate and fire-safe, and then specifies the work for the coming years. ## Advice in the first year For new wood stoves, the chimney sweep is meant to advise you in the first year of operation on correct heating, storing firewood and operation. Use the opportunity for your questions. When we hand over your stove, we show you what matters anyway. ## What you can prepare - Do not light the stove the day before, so that it is cold for the appointment. - Clear access to cleaning openings, the loft or the roof hatch. - Have the operating manual and the stove’s documents to hand. - Keep a log from your wood supply ready in case the wood moisture is to be measured. ## Planning a new stove? Then we clarify in advance with you and your chimney sweep whether the existing chimney is suitable or what needs to be adapted. The easiest way is an appointment in our showroom.
