Wood-burning stove, pellet stove, heat-storage stove or fireplace insert – what suits me?

Four types of fireplace compared: how they heat, who they suit and what to look out for when choosing.

Wood-burning stove, pellet stove, heat-storage stove or fireplace insert – what suits me?

Anyone who wants a fireplace soon faces the question: which type actually suits me? Here is an overview of the four most common solutions – just as we explain them in our consultations. ## Wood-burning stove The classic: freestanding, quickly installed and quick to heat up. Wood-burning stoves come in countless shapes – with viewing glass on one or more sides, rotating, with a log store or soapstone cladding. - Ideal for: living rooms in existing homes, quick warmth in the evening, smaller budgets - Bear in mind: Without storage mass, the room cools down fairly quickly after the fire has burnt out – in new builds often too much output ## Pellet stove Pellet stoves are fed automatically from a hopper, can be programmed and are often controlled via an app. They need electricity and regular cleaning. - Ideal for: anyone who wants convenience and does not want to keep adding wood - Bear in mind: operating noise from the fan and feed screw, pellets need to be stored ## Heat-storage stove and masonry heater (Grundofen) Heat-storage stoves and masonry heaters built on site absorb the heat with a large mass and release it over many hours as gentle radiant heat. One load can last for a whole day. - Ideal for: new builds and well-insulated houses, anyone who values even warmth - Bear in mind: heats up more slowly, greater weight (check the structural load) ## Fireplace insert and built-in fireplace A fireplace insert is built in and individually clad – creating a fireplace that fits your room exactly. Old open fireplaces can also be retrofitted with a fireplace cassette. With storage elements or water technology, there are built-in fireplaces for almost any heat requirement. - Ideal for: individual design, conversion and renovation, the fireplace as the centrepiece of the room - Bear in mind: more planning and construction work, higher total costs than a wood-burning stove ## How do you find the right solution? What matters is your house (new build or existing), the chimney, the space and how you want to heat: a cosy fire in the evening or warmth throughout the day. This is exactly what we clarify in the consultation – as specialist advisers, not as salespeople. In our showroom in Ausbüttel you can see many models in person.
